Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make an appointment or do I need a referral?

You need a referral from your family doctor, specialist or nurse practitioner.

Are there forms to complete?

Yes.  Although you can complete them on the night of your study, it is faster if you complete them in advance.  You can download, print, and fill out the forms before you come in for your appointment. Bring them with you to your sleep study appointment.  To download the forms, click on the link at the bottom of the page.  Please use pediatric questionnaire for children 4-12 years of age.  Please use the adult questionnaire for anyone above the age of 12.

Are your services covered by OHIP?

All sleep clinic services including the overnight sleep study and doctor appointments are 100% covered by OHIP.

What should I expect the night of the sleep study?

A sleep study consists of overnight observation and monitoring while you are asleep in our laboratory.  When you arrive at the Richmond Hill Sleep and Lung Institute for your study, you will be greeted by your sleep technologist, who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.  You will be shown to a private room decorated to feel like a non-medical environment.  Once you are ready for the test, the tech will apply the electrodes.   These electrodes do not restrict you from sleeping or moving about.  You can get up to go to the restroom during the test. The sleep technologist will instruct you on how to do this without disrupting the electrodes.  There are no needles and no pain.  Once the monitoring equipment is configured, you just lay back, relax and sleep. We’ll take care of the rest.  The technologist will wake you up in the morning and you will be discharged at 6 am.

What is the cancellation policy?

Please arrive promptly on your scheduled date and time.  This time and space has been reserved for you.

WE REQUIRE TWO BUSINESS DAYS CANCELLATION NOTICE; OTHERWISE A $300 CHARGE WILL BE APPLIED.

Is there parking and how do I access the sleep lab for my sleep study?

The sleep lab is located at 330 Highway 7 East.  The building is locked after 9 pm for your security.  You can access our lab through the main entrance from the large parking lot.  Use the intercom at the entrance and dial 205 and we will unlock the door.  Proceed to unit 205 on the second floor where you will be provided with a free parking permit.
